Jeg's Mail Order Racing Pre Race Release
The Jeg's Mail Order Racing Team will be flying the yellow and black colors proudly at National Trail Raceway, the team's home track. Both the Pro Stock and Sportsman programs are focused on winning in front of the hometown crowd.
The momentum is, without a doubt, on the side of the Jeg's Mail Order Racing Team. Jeg Coughlin, Jr. is currently in third place (539 pts.) in The 1998 NHRA Winston Championship Series. He is three points behind 1996 & 97 NHRA Pro Stock Champion Jim Yates. Veteran Pro Stock driver Warren Johnson is leading the pack with 787 points. Jeg commented, "Without a doubt we are within reach of The 1998 NHRA World Championship. We have done extensive testing in preparation for The Pontiac Excitement Nationals, in our hometown. This race generates a lot of excitement among our employees, families, friends and Central Ohio race fans. It is great to race when you have so many people wanting you to win."
Troy Coughlin is coming off of his best outing if The 1998 NHRA season. Troy's effort at the last race yielded him a semi-final appearance and the number five qualifying position for The Innagural Fram Nationals at Route 66 Raceway. At last year's Pontiac Excitement Nationals Troy runnered up in the Pro Stock final to Tom Martino. Troy stated, "Last year, the victory here slipped through my hands. The car is performing well and the testing that we have done at National Trail Raceway will benefit us tremendously. I look for good things to come from The Jeg's Race Team."
The accumulation of points for The 1999 Pro Stock Challenge Race began this past weekend at The Fram Nationals. This special race takes place annually at The Mopar Parts Nationals in Englishtown New Jersey. The top eight point earners qualify to compete in the race with a $50,000 check going to the winner. Troy is fifth with 140 points. Jeg Coughlin, Jr. trails with 115 points in the number ten position.
This race will be Mike Coughlin's final NHRA National Event before he moves into NHRA's new Pro Stock Truck competition class. "I can think of no other track that I would like to make my last run in Super Comp. I only wish that I could debut my Pro Stock Truck in front of our home town crowd."
Oldest and youngest brothers, John and Jeg Coughlin, Jr. will team up on the Super Stock battlefield to take home a win. John commented, "It's great to go to a track when you have your family, friends, employees, and fans behind you. It really increases your motivation." In addition to competing in Pro Stock and Super Stock, Jeg Coughlin, Jr. will be the returning champion of The 1997 Federal Mogul All Stars Race that is held annually in Columbus. "Being in a race like this is a real honor and achievement. This race takes the best drivers from all seven divisions and the previous years champion from each represented class and puts them head to head." stated Jeg. Jeg has qualified to race in this prestigous race three times. He has been the winner twice and has a runner up under his belt.
The Jeg's Mail Order Racing Team has one of the most diverse and knowledgeable talent bases in the NHRA. Jeg Coughlin, Sr. is "THE CAPTIN" of the team. He has been an icon in the sport of drag racing dating back to the 50's through the early 80's, in a variety of classes. Crew Chief Jeff Taylor is an accomplished driver/sportsman engine builder and is well respected by his peers. Richard Maskin is the engine builder for the Pro Stock program. He was the former engine builder for Jim Yates, who was the 1996 and 97 NHRA Pro Stock Champion.
