Jeg Coughlin clinches Pro Stock championship at Las Vegas

Jeg Coughlin took the 2002 NHRA Pro Stock National Championship by winning his first round match up against Scott Geoffrion at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals. He entered the weekend with a 108-point lead over Jim Yates who did not qualify for the finals.

"That first run was big," said Coughlin. "It gave us the championship and the momentum to win all of our rounds. Winning the NHRA POWERade Championship is a great feeling."

During the second round, Jeg went head to head with Ron Krisher. Jeg got the hole shot over Krisher for the win.

In the semifinal round, Jeg matched up with Allen Johnson. Johnson jumped the start giving Jeg the easy win.

The finals matched Jeg with Warren Johnson. Jeg had a near perfect .401 reaction time at the light and kept that lead to defeat Johnson for the win.

"The Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier has been running great all weekend," said Jeg. "We found more speed during each qualifying run and continued won each round of eliminations. The guys that work on this car are giving me every opportunity to win."

With the win, Jeg improves his record to four straight wins and has won eight out of the last 11 times to the starting line. He now has won a total of 31 races in his short Pro Stock career.

The final race of the season is the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, California the weekend of November 7-10.
