Wilson to debut new tuner Marc White this weekend in Memphis
MILLINGTON, Tenn. - This weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Memphis Motorsports Park will mark the first race that NHRA Division 3 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Jeff Wilson will have former Top Alcohol Funny Car heavy hitter Marc White on as crew chief. Wilson opened the year here last year with a win, and hopes to repeat that same fortune this year with his Torco Race Fuels/STARCON backed dragster.
Wilson, from Winfield, Mo., is quick to point out that Al Meade, White's predecessor, Al Meade, isn't going anywhere, but turning his full attention to the team's new A/Fuel car, which should debut later in the year.
"This was planned from day one this year," said Wilson. "We started the wheels in motion last year to run both combinations this year, and when Marc became available, we reached a deal with him to tune the blown car. This lets Al, who has more of a background with nitro, focus full time on the A/Fueler."
Despite having a different tune-up to bring to the table, Wilson and White will start the weekend off with the tune-up that won them the race last year. White's last tuning experience with a dragster was with Randy Park's car in the late '90's.
"Marc eventually wants to do some different things with the tune-up," stated Wilson. "But we're going to ease into it, and put the tune-up we had on it last year here to try to get a baseline and get solidly in the field. It's been a while since Marc has ran a dragster; there's a lot of different stuff going on."
Wilson is also excited to debut several new associate sponsors this weekend.
"We've picked up a few associate sponsors for this year," commented Wilson. "Valvoline, Scott Shop Towels, Abmira Program Design, Colorscans Commercial Graphics, and Scott Mack Designs have come on board to our existing sponsors Torco Race Fuels, STARCON, Spitzer Race Cars and Composites and Mickey Thompson Tires. We look forward to doing our best for them all year, and hopefully we can put them in the winner's circle right off the bat."
Qualifying starts on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
