Cannon set on returning to the winner's circle in Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Defending NHRA Division 2 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Jason Cannon is looking to get back into the winner's circle during this weekend's Division 2 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Bristol Dragway. Cannon and his Caps Coach & Trailer/InsideTopAlcohol.com backed team enter the event tied for second in the division.

Cannon, who helps run the family boat dealership, Caps Marine Center in Middleburg, Fla., enters the event on a string of strong national event finishes. Cannon reached the semifinals of the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Ohio, then made the finals at the K&N Filters SuperNationals in New Jersey. Cannon and his team hope the back to back races will help their consistency this weekend.

"Running all those races in a row was tough, but we learned a lot," said Cannon. "It just goes to show you have to make runs to learn, and fortunately we made runs by going rounds. We are making more horsepower this year, and it took a few races to figure out how to control it. Hopefully we can just go up to Bristol and be consistent and take the win."

Team Crew Chief Will Hanna also feels consistency will be the key this weekend.

"At the last division race in Valdosta, we had too aggressive a mindset, got behind, and after the fact found out we were a good bit more aggressive on the tune-up than we thought," commented Hanna. "I told Mike Gruber with Valvoline in the lanes we were going to lay a 5.40 down and ended up smoking the tires and a mid 5.60 would have won it. After these last few races we are starting to get a handle on what this new combination wants. You have to adjust some things for the altitude in Bristol, but our main focus will be consistency, not big numbers."

Qualifying will be Friday night and eliminations will be ran Saturday afternoon. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
