BECKMAN SOLID IN TOPEKA WITH SEMIFINALS FINISH AT NHRA SUMMER NATIONALS
TOPEKA, Kan., – Jack Beckman, driving the Aaron’s Dream Machine/Valvoline Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car, advanced to the semifinal round in today’s 23rd annual NHRA Summer Nationals here at Heartland Park Topeka.
After qualifying No. 1, Beckman won the first two rounds of competition before bowing out to points leader Mike Neff in the semifinals. Beckman was not able to run down Neff in the 1,000-foot run when his car lost traction on the hot, slick track surface.
“We had a great weekend, but it is disappointing to qualify No. 1 and not take the car to the final round,” said Beckman. “The heat today did take us out of our comfort zone.
“Considering the roll we’ve been on, it’s hard to complain.”
Beckman, who has two wins and two semifinal appearances in the last four races, remains second in the drivers’ point standings to Neff, who lost in today’s finals to Robert Hight.
“A semifinal day is not that bad,” noted Beckman. “If you reach the semifinal round every race that’s 44 round wins and not too many people in Funny Car are doing that.
“We lost a little ground to the points leader but also created distance between us and everyone else.”
Beckman leaves Topeka with a 14-5 round record after seven races in the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.
The next national event is the NHRA SuperNationals, June 2-5 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.
