DIXON NUMBER ONE QUALIFIER AT U.S. NATIONALS
TORRANCE, Calif. (September 5, 2010) -- Larry Dixon earned his sixth Top Fuel pole position of the season at the U.S. Nationals on Sunday at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis in preparation for the first event of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series' Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Dixon registered the quickest run ever in U.S. Nationals history with a blistering 3.776-second pass on Saturday night and that time was strong enough to hold up through Sunday's two qualifying runs.
Following Dixon among the Toyota-sponsored Top Fuel drivers was Antron Brown in fifth, Morgan Lucas in 11th and Shawn Langdon in 12th. Brown and Langdon will square off in the first round of eliminations on Monday.JCruz Pedregon continued his strong late-season run with a fourth in qualifying. He's now qualified in the top-six in Funny Car qualifying in six of the last seven events. Del Worsham ran the third-quickest pass in the final qualifying session to place 11th overall.
Larry Dixon has earned a series-high six number one qualifying positions this season. He has won each of the previous five events where he qualified number one in 2010.
Larry Dixon heads into tomorrow's U.S. Nationals with the number one seed in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs. After qualifying, he currently holds a 25-point lead over second-place Cory McClenathan.
In addition to Larry Dixon, Toyota drivers Antron Brown, Shawn Langdon, Morgan Lucas and Del Worsham also are a part of the Countdown playoffs.
