SCHUMACHER THIRD AFTER DAY TWO

INDIANAPOLIS, September 4, 2010 - Handling the controls of his U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster, Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher jumped to the third starting spot here Saturday following the second day of qualifying for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

Utilizing a 3.790-second pass at a track record 324.83 mph, Schumacher moved from fifth in the order to third. He has two more qualifying sessions set for Sunday prior to race day on Monday.

"We put up a quick lap today," said the defending world champion. "We knew we were going to be able to step on it given the cool air. Hopefully, we can have two more clean runs tomorrow so we're totally prepared for the race."

Schumacher fell in behind Larry Dixon and his Don Schumacher Racing teammate, Cory McClenathan, in the lineup. Coming into the first round of the Countdown to 1, it was Dixon, McClenathan and Schumacher in the points.

"So, I guess it's no surprise that we're placed like we are right now," added Schumacher. "We'll see how it all shakes out on Monday."

While cool temperatures are expected once again for final qualifying, hot weather is slated to return to Indianapolis for race day.

"And, that will affect everyone's tune ups," said Schumacher. "We'll just have to make the right adjustments to get the job done."

As Schumacher gained a couple of spots on Saturday, his U.S. Army Racing teammate, Antron Brown, dropped three positions to fifth. The driver of the Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster could not improve upon his Friday run of 3.808-seconds at 319.22 mph.
