HOT ROD FULLER MAKES QUICKEST LAP OF SUNDAY QUALIFYING AT INDY, QUALIFIES NINTH AT U.S. NATIONALS

CLERMONT, Ind. (Aug. 5, 2010) - "Hot Rod" Fuller powered his Abu Dhabi/Yas Marina Circuiit dragster to the quickest lap of the final day of qualifying for the 56th annual U.S. Nationals Sunday afternoon at O'Reilly Raceway Park as seven-time Top Fuel winner qualified ninth with a qualifying-best effort of 3.840-seconds.

Fuller, who posted a runner-up finish in Super Gas at the U.S. Nationals in 1998, entered the final day of qualifying in the provisional No. 9 qualifying position after clocking a pass of 3.840 seconds at 318.17 mph on Saturday evening. It was Fuller's third fastest 1,000-foot speed. On Sunday's opening effort, the Abu Dhabi-backed rail carded the second quickest pass of the round. Fuller stopped the timers in 3.874 at 314.53 to earn two bonus qualifying points. The University of Arkansas graduate used a tune-up from champion crew chief Lee Beard to power the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority-owned car to the quickest and fastest pass of the day, 3.864 at 318.17 to earn three bonus points. It equaled Fuller's speed from the third qualifying session.

"We made two really good runs today and this Abu Dhabi dragster is running terrific," Fuller said. "Lee (Beard) and Rip (Reynolds) are doing a great job with this Abu Dhabi car. We struggled early in qualifying, but we righted the ship and now have a great shot to win this race on Monday. We have a great team and a great car and it will be tough to win four rounds with so much competition, but I think we can get it done. "

Fuller will square off against No. 8 qualifier Steve Torrence in the opening round of eliminations at 11 a.m. (ET) on Monday at O'Reilly Raceway Park. Fuller advanced to the semifinals in his last race near Denver in July.
