This past weekend in Indianapolis, Ford NHRA Pro Stock Legend Bob Glidden returned to the track for the first time since 1997, driving for Jim Cunningham's team. The Motorsport Hall of Fame driver talks about his plans for the rest of the 2010 NHRA season and his thoughts on being back in a Mustang.
THERE'S A LOT OF RUMOURS GOING AROUND AFTER YOUR APPEARANCE IN INDY THIS WEEKEND. ARE YOU GOING TO BACK RACING WITH CUNNIGHAM MOTORSPORTS AGAIN THIS SEASON? "Yes. We're planning on running here in Charlotte with just my car. Erica [Enders] will run in Dallas, and then both cars will run the rest of the races this season."
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BACK IN THE MUSTANG AGAIN? "Oh, it's great! It's very exciting."
DID YOU EVER THINK THAT WHEN YOU STARTED YOUR CAREER THAT YOU WOULD BE DOING THIS NOW AT YOUR AGE? "Absolutely not. I had no thoughts or dreams of doing this again until Jim [Cunningham] and I started talking. Jim said that they were going to test before Indy, so I told him that I would come to the test and probably make one run and come back and tell him that I didn't really want to do it. I made a run and it was just awesome. It was very exciting."
WITH IT BEING THE FIRST FULL SEASON THAT FORD HAS RUN THE NEW ENGINE PROGRAM IN PRO STOCK THERE'S BEEN SOME ISSUES WITH QUALIFYING. DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN HELP FORD GET BACK IN A POSITION TO WIN? "Yes, I think so. I don't think we can get over that hurdle all in one jump, but by the time we get to the West Coast we'll have a couple of cars that will qualify. Then we'll have to work with the weather and get over that mountain. I absolutely intend on working hard on this stuff and try to make the cars better. He's got a lot of young guys that are working hard on this to try and make it happen."
