McClenathan's 4.544-second Run Puts Him Ninth

CLERMONT, Ind., Sept. 1, 2007 -- Cory McClenathan was happy Saturday evening following his impressive 4.544-second run in the second day of qualifying for Monday's U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

Disappointed after accidentally turning off the car's engine on its Friday night run, McClenathan made two trips down the track, the first at 4.915 seconds at 217.32 mph. The second lifted him from outside the top 16 to ninth.

"The car was really moving," said McClenathan. "We were running 276 mph at half-track. We really needed that. Everybody on the team did a great job and the guys picked me up after last night's mistake.

"I'm excited. The car is showing great promise and Keith Adams and Tony Shortall (crew chief and assistant crew chief) show they are getting a handle on the combination."
