Team Jeg's ready to make presence felt.
Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching as drag racers from across the country and around the world make the annual pilgrimage to Indianapolis Raceway Park for the 48th Annual Mac Tools US Nationals. This race not only puts teams to the test it provides a stage that is like none other in the sport of Drag Racing.
Team Jeg's driver's Jeg and Troy Coughlin are no strangers to the winner's circle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series most prestigious event.
Former Mac Tools U.S. Nationals winner and 2000 champion Jeg Coughlin has every reason to be confident in his chances at the famed event this season. Jeg has been tearing through the field over the past several months winning three of the five races leading up to the Indy spectacular. The youngest of the Coughlin brothers is the only driver in the class to score three wins so far this season. The thirty-two year old second generation driver has mounted a serious comeback in the points chase as well. He has moved up ten positions in the last ten NHRA events. Jeg rolls into Indianapolis as one of the hottest drivers. He sits ready to strike from the No. 3 position in the points. Jeg is a mere 10 points behind Jim Yates and 35 points from Greg Anderson tin he top spot in NHRA's most competitive professional class.
"We are really excited about the momentum we are carrying into the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals," explained Jeg. "Our team has been doing an excellent job preparing our Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier to be a competitive threat week in and week out. Indianapolis adds a little more pressure to perform on everyone, but I feel that energy helps you to perform better. The winner will be the team that executes flawlessly over the entire weekend and capitalizes on others misfortune. We are looking forward to the challenge as a team, and hope to be in the winner's circle Monday evening."
The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals is a special place for Troy Coughlin as well. The 2002 Topeka winner won his first ever NHRA national event at Indianapolis competing in Super Gas in 1991. A Pro Stock win at Indy would score Troy his second win of the season and the third of his professional career.
"It is always a thrill competing at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park," said Troy. "Every race in which we compete is important, but there is something special about winning at Indy. It is a win that you never forget, every driver wants to win this race in their career. We feel like we really turned the corner with our Jeg's Mail Order machine in Brainerd. If we execute well, there is no reason to believe that we can't make it five wins for Team Jeg's this season with a win at Indy and score win No.52 for Coughlin Brothers Racing and Team Jeg's."
