New power for Jerry Haas at Indy
Clermont, Ind. - - Jerry Haas, from Fenton, Mo., driver of the Jerry Haas Race Cars, Inc. Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Truck, hopes the new power plant from the engine shop of Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins will propel him to the forefront of the Pro Stock Truck Class at the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals which unfolds this weekend at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, Ind., just a stone's throw from the fabled Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
"We're going to Indy with our thoughts geared toward winning. We have the 'latest and greatest' engine available from Grumpy (Bill Jenkins) and although we have yet to track test it, we feel it will give us the power to compete at the front of the truck field," said Haas, renowned chassis builder and owner of Jerry Haas Race Cars, Inc.
"We're going to Indy to do battle with some of the best professional drivers in NHRA drag racing. We're keeping ourselves pumped up as much as we possibly can, considering what has taken place since the last race in St. Louis," added Haas, regarding the cancellation of the Pro Stock Truck class by NHRA, beginning with the 2002 season. "I'd still like to win a couple of these before this class becomes history."
On Thursday night, Haas will trade his driver's suit for black tie apparel as he attends the Car Craft Magazine All-Star awards banquet. The unassuming chassis builder is a finalist for Pro Stock Chassis Builder of the Year. Should he win the top honor this year, it will mark his 14th time winning the award.
