Gann earns No. 1 spot, seeks second career Pro Bike Klash victory

CLERMONT, Ind. - Shawn Gann will headline a special eight-bike field from the No. 1 qualifying position and will try and earn his second career victory in the 13th annual K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Aug. 30. The special event for NHRA Pro Stock Bike competitors will be held during the 49th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

The total race day purse for the K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash at Indianapolis Raceway Park is $36,000. The winner will earn a $15,000 bonus from K&N Filters. Any rider who can win the Klash and the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals on Sept. 2 will earn a $10,000 'Double-Up' bonus from the NHRA.

The Klash runner-up will earn $5,000. The two semifinalists will earn $3,000 each, while the four first-round finishers will earn $2,500 apiece.

Gann claimed the No. 1 spot for the special event for the first time in his career by earning three No. 1 qualifying efforts and qualifying sixth or better at each of the 14 NHRA events that made up the Klash series. Pro Stock Bike riders receive $50,000 during the Klash series. In addition to the $36,000 available in the Duel, $14,000 in bonuses were awarded to quick qualifiers throughout the Klash series.

Craig Treble, rider of the Matco Tools Suzuki, won his first K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash in 2002. Treble, from Chandler, Ariz., held off Klash rookie Mike Berry in the final round.

Three-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Bike champion Angelle Savoie, who has been a runner-up in the Klash on three separate occassions (1998-2000), starts from the No. 2 position and is followed by current POWERade points leader Geno Scali and Reggie Showers who recently earned his first career No. 1 qualifying position (Brainerd, Minn.).
