INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 31) - The Miller Lite/Snake Racing Top Fuel dragster led by veteran crew chief, Dick LaHaie used a lightning fast 4.597 elapsed time at a speed of 321.73 mph to put Larry Dixon in the No. 3 provisional starting position after three of five rounds of qualifying for the 48th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
"Yeah, it was a real nice run for the Miller Lite car," said Dixon. "We wanted to get into the 4.50s, so we can at least be in the top four as far a qualifying goes. I don't think we'll see any 4.50s tomorrow during the day, so we're real happy to be able to get it in tonight."
Earlier in the day, Dixon improved on his time of 4.658 seconds from Friday night by lowering it to 4.648 seconds, 319.09 mph, which at the time kept him in the No. 6 position. The best news for the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil team was running low elapsed time of the round in the heat of the day.
"The night session usually lets me know how good we can run during the day," said Dixon. "We're never world beaters at night, but it seems we can run that good during the day. We race during the day, so that's what we've got to work on."
Dixon gets two more opportunities on Sunday to continue development on his race setup with the last two sessions starting at 12:00 p.m. and 4.10 p.m. CDT.
ESPN2 will air qualifying highlights from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. EDT concluding that evening with two and half hours from 9:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. Final eliminations coverage will be broadcast on Monday, Sept. 2 beginning with two hours from 11:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and ending with three hours of final round reporting from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.
