CLAREMONT, IND (Sept. 1) Larry Dixon, the current NHRA Winston Top Fuel points leader, saw Friday night's pass of 4.585 seconds at 316.97 mph in Don Prudhomme's Miller Lite Dragster continue to be his best effort so far this weekend to place him in the No. 4 qualifying position at the 47th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

The Miller Lite Team's day began with hot and humid conditions unlike the first day of qualifying on Friday. Dixon entered the day as the No. 3 qualifier and was not able to improve on his first lap of the day. He appeared to be on a great run down the right lane until the halftrack mark when he clicked off to a time of 5.711 seconds at 154.58 mph.

The evening session saw an opportunity for Dixon and team to climb the ladder, however a parts failure on the right side of the 6,000 horsepower engine derailed the pass down the left lane and resulted in a lap of 5.095 seconds at 195.70 mph.

At the end of second day of qualifying Dixon saw himself in the fourth qualifying spot, with two more qualifying runs remaining on Sunday (12:45 and 4:35 PM). Monday's final rounds begin at 10:30 AM.

Television coverage of qualifying action continues Sunday (1:00-2:30 PM) on ESPN 2. Early elimination rounds will air on ESPN (11:00AM-1:00 PM) with coverage continuing later that day (4:00-7:00 PM).
