John Coughlin faced off against Steve Farr in the opening round. Coughlin had lane choice and took the left lane.
The advantage off of the starting line went to Farr by .042 seconds (.441 to .483). Both Chevy S-10's were side-by-side from the 330-foot clock on. John turned on the win light by .001, which was the closest margin of victory of the round. He ran a 7.630 at 175.68 mph.
"That was too close," said John. "It reminded me of racing Super Comp or Super Gas."
Defending U.S. Nationals Pro Stock Truck winner and No. 1 qualifier Mike Coughlin went head-to-head against Lou Ficco in round one. Coughlin and his Jeg's machine took the left lane.
The advantage off of the starting line went to Mike (.446 to .447). Mike ran a 7.630 at 175.68 mph for the win.
"We were not the quickest car of the round," stated Mike. "We have avoided getting too aggressive and I think that it is helping us."
In the second round John faced off against Don Smith. Coughlin took the starting line advantage by .020 seconds (.465 to .485). Both S-10's raced door handle to door handle all the way down the track. John turned on the win light by .011 seconds. John ran a 7.611 at 175.75 mph.
"You have to be on your game in this class. If your not you will be watch from the stands," stated John. "There is just no room for error!"
Mike Coughlin went head-to-head with Bob Panella, Jr. in the second round. Panella took the left lane.
The reaction time advantage off of the starting line went to Coughlin by .026 seconds (.441 to .467). Mike launched from the starting line and the truck made a move to the left. The Jeg's machine favored the left side of the groove all the way down the track. The win light came on for Panella by .026 seconds. Mike ran a 7.606 at 176.40 mph.
"The first sixty-feet hurt us," said Mike. "When the truck moved to the left when we launched from the starting line it never fully recovered."
John Coughlin took on Larry Seay in the semifinal round. The Jeg's Chevy S-10 was in the right lane.
Larry Seay took a major advantage off of the line (.436 to .523). The Maskin/DART Machinery horsepower came on strong as Seay ran into problems in the other lane. John ran a 7.598 at 175.82 mph.
"That was not our best run of the weekend," said John. "Everyone has been doing a great job all weekend."
In the final round John faced Bob Panella. John left the starting line first (.440 to .486). Both of the Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Trucks charged toward the finish line. The win light came on for Panella. John ran a 7.622 at 176.63 mph.
"We had a great weekend," said John. "There is only one guy that is happier. We moved up to No. 3 in the points. All things considered it was a great U.S. Nationals."
John Coughlin has 631 points and is in the No. 3 position. Mike Coughlin also made a move up in the points. He has 411 points and moved up to the No. 8 spot.
