Rain slows record-setting pace at NHRA US Nationals

Mother Nature set the pace in the MAC Tools US Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park, as heavy rains forced the postponement of the final two rounds of the event. The last two days are scheduled for Sept. 6-7.

Before the weather stopped the show, Goodyear's D6575 radial racing tire for the Stock Eliminator class served teams in the class notice that it has exceptional qualities.

Al Corda won the A Fuel Injected category title using the D6575 on his Pontiac Trans Am. Corda was so happy with the newly-released tire that he presented his trophy to Goodyear engineer Chris Mileti.

"This tire is especially good in the A Fuel Injected category because the weight is only 2,900 pounds," Corda said. "You don't carry much ballast in the trunk. This tire is the best thing you could get."

In the professional classes, two rounds of qualifying runs were finished. Greg Anderson set track records for the Pro Stock class in both elapsed time (6.799 seconds) and speed (202.61 mph). David Baca set a track ET record in Top Fuel with a pass of 4.504 seconds. Gary Scelzi posted the top Funny Car run, 4.765 seconds (316.01 mph).
