INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 31, 2003 -- A steady rain, with more expected Monday, forced NHRA to postpone completion of the 49th annual U.S. Nationals until Sept. 5-7 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Just two of a scheduled five qualifying runs were completed after rain cancelled Friday night's first attempt.

Doug Herbert's Snap-on Racing Top Fuel dragster was 15th after the two runs, with a best of 4.733 seconds at 299.53 mph. He had problems with his engine dropping cylinders.

There will be one qualifying session on Friday and two on Saturday -- plus the Budweiser Shootout for Funny Cars -- before Sunday's completion of the U.S. Nationals.
