Rain postpones Indy, rescheduled for next weekend

CLERMONT, Ind. (August 30, 2003) -- Persistent rains today forced the National Hot Rod Association to postpone the remaining racing for this weekend at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. Action has been rescheduled for next weekend.

One qualifying session will be run on Friday (September 5th) and conclude with two additional sessions on Saturday (September 6th). Final eliminations are now scheduled for Sunday (September 7th).

David Baca, driver of the Hunter's Hope/American Racing/Waterloo Top Fuel dragster, ran an Indianapolis Raceway Park track record at 4.504 seconds on Saturday evening and will hold the No. 1 spot when action resumes next weekend.

Regarding the rainout Baca said, "I was looking forward to running both today and during eliminations tomorrow. Now the team must wait to next weekend. I just hope that the angels continue to ride on our shoulders throughout the week and into next weekend. Naturally, we would like to hold onto the No. 1 spot and will be doing everything we can to remain in the top spot."

At this event Henkelman and Baca Motorsports unveiled a special edition dragster for this event featuring the Hunter's Hope Foundation to raise awareness, call attention and raise research dollars so that the Foundation might continue their work to find a cure for Krabbe Disease.

Hunter's Hope Foundation was founded by former Buffalo Bills quarterback and NFL Hall of Fame inductee Jim Kelly and his wife Jill, and is named for their son Hunter, who has Krabbe Disease. Jim Kelly was on hand throughout the weekend to watch Baca.
