Indianapolis, Indiana. Howard made it to the semifinals where she lost to eventual winner Jay Meyer, who ran an elapsed time of 5.498 at 255.10 miles per hour over Howard's not far behind 5.604 at 250.64 miles per hour.

Howard qualified No. 6 with a 5.641 at 263.14 mph, and defeated 1999 Division 3 Champion Shawn Bowen in the first round with a 5.659 at 251.11. In round two, Howard pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the race when she took out No. 3 qualifier Gary Ormsby Jr., on a huge .455 to .561 holeshot (.400 reaction time is perfect), and held on to win with a 5.61 over Ormsby's quicker but later 5.59.

Howard said, "My main focus during the race was to run my own race and not to worry about who was over in the next lane. When you do that you tend to make mistakes. We didn't want to beat ourselves."

"This weekend was a step in the right direction," Howard added.

The next stop for the Howard team will be the Division 4 closer at Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, Oklahoma. The Tulsa, Oklahoma resident hopes to bring in her first win of the year in her home state.

"I think Noble will be a much more predictable track than Indy was," Howard commented. "The conditions in Indy changed so much, it was very difficult to keep up with it tuning wise. We should be able to run some good numbers in Noble. It just depends on how hot it is."
