The Team Mopar Pro Stock Dodge Avengers driven by Darrell Alderman and Scott Geoffrion are currently placed 11th and 16th after day one of qualifying at the NHRA O'Reilly Nationals. For the first time this year, the "Dodge Boys" are both in the top 16 placing their Hemi powered Dodge Avengers in the field for Saturday's qualifying rounds.
"We're really excited with how the weekend has started. Both cars seem to be running great; it looks like we're on a roll. Those new Hemi engines are really starting to shine, we're going to be hard to beat as we near the middle of the season," said Darrell Alderman, driver of theTeam Mopar Pro Stock Dodge Avenger.
The Dodge Motorsports Pro Stock Avengers driven by John Nobile and Larry Morgan finished 21st and 24th respectively.
The Dodge Motorsports and Team Mopar Pro Stock Truck teams both had challenges to overcome during Friday's rounds, but are optimistic about qualifying on Saturday. The Dodge Motorsports Dakota R/T driven by Todd Patterson made it to the semi-finals in 1999. He's confident he can replay that success during Saturday's qualifying.
"We had a Couple of problems today but we're trying a different set-up for tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will cool down a bit and we can see what this track can handle. We had some troubles in Las Vegas, and little time to prepare for this race, but my crew is great and I know we're going to give it all we've got tomorrow," said Todd Patterson.
Patterson placed 22nd after day one while Craig Eaton and his father Dale Eaton placed 29th and 33rd respectively. TheTeam Mopar Dodge Dakota R/T driven by Bo Nickens placed 32nd.
The MATCO/Mopar Parts Dodge Avenger driven by Dean Skuza also had a great run today putting him into Saturday's qualifying rounds in 4th position with a 4.908/311.41.
