BAYTOWN, Texas - Federal Mogul Dragster driver Shelly Howard had her streak of late round appearances snapped by Gary Ormsby Jr. in the second round of this past weekend's Matco Tools SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions. Ormsby took the win with an elapsed time of 5.463 at 251.11 miles per hour over Howard's 5.509 at 251.11 mph.

Howard, of Tulsa, Okla., qualified No. 6 with a great 5.496 at 255.95 mph, and ran a 5.506 at 256.75 mph to put away A/Fuel powerhouse Steve Faria in round one. In round two, Howard was ahead of Ormsby at the 330' mark when her motor started to go away in high gear.

"It started nosing over a little when I hit high gear, then a lot at the end of the track," said Howard. "We have been having problems with our rev limiter coming in early, and we believe it ultimately caused the motor to go away on the top end of the track. The engine block is cracked pretty bad. We just wish we didn't have those problems, it might have been a different outcome."

From Houston, Howard will move up the road to the Texas Motorplex for the resumption of the O'Reilly Nationals this weekend. Howard will face No. 4 qualifier David Wells in the first round.

"We feel a little bit better about going back to Dallas now that we are back running in the .40's," explained Howard. "At any rate, Wells will be tough, so we will have to be on our game."
