BAYTOWN, Texas - Federal Mogul Dragster driver Shelly Howard hopes to pick up her first win of the year during this weekend's Matco Tools SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions at Houston Raceway Park. Howard is coming off a string of three-straight semifinal finishes, and hopes to go one more round this weekend.

Howard, of Tulsa, Okla., only qualified 12th during the rain shortened qualifying during last weekend's O'Reilly Nationals at the Texas Motorplex just south of Dallas. Howard will be looking to get back into the 5.50's and 5.40 elapsed times she is accustomed to.

"We are just going to try to do like we have done all year, the 'new race, new ballgame' approach has worked pretty good at the last few races," said Howard. "The main thing I am looking for this weekend is consistency of the car and myself. Houston is a pretty good track, so we should be able to run fairly well. We want to turn consistency into round wins."

Howard won the 1998 Division 4 race at Houston, and qualified No. 3 at the O'Reilly Nationals held at HRP as well. Given her past experiences at this track, Howard hopes to earn her first "Wally" (event winner's trophy) this weekend.

"Even though we want to win, we have to take it one round at a time," explained Howard. "That means worrying about winning the first round, then the second and so on. When you worry too much about winning, sometimes you lose focus on the round at hand."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the Federal Mogul Dragsters, with first round on Saturday, and final eliminations following on Sunday.
