BAYTOWN, Texas (Oct. 27, 2000) - Darrell Alderman and Larry Morgan led the Dodge Motorsports and Team Mopar contingent during the first two rounds of Pro Stock qualifying for the Matco Tools Spring Supernationals at Houston Raceway Park Friday.

Alderman, who drives one of two Team Mopar Dodge R/Ts, grabbed the 12th-qualifying position with a 6.956-second elapsed time at 196.79 mph in his second-round pass. The 27-time national event winner explains his day.

"We made a decent run in the left lane," said the three-time NHRA Winston Pro Stock World Champion. "I was hoping for a little more. We need to work on the clutch setup a little bit because this car has a lot left in it."

The Dodge Motorsports R/T of Larry Morgan slipped in right behind Alderman at 13th, after clicking off a 6.957/197.08 effort during the second session.

"We really improved over our first session," said Morgan, who was 19th after round one. "We fixed the tire spin off the starting line. I'm glad to be in the show, but I think we can go a lot quicker and faster. The track conditions will hold it."

Bo Nickens made his NHRA Pro Stock preview in a second Dodge Motorsports R/T with a solid effort. The Conroe, Texas resident laid down a 6.978/197.65 combination, just missing the field in 18th.

"Not bad for my first time out," said Nickens, who drove the Team Mopar Dodge Dakota R/T in the Pro Stock Truck category earlier this season. "We worked on the clutch a little bit. I'm very pleased."

Scott Geoffrion and his Team Mopar Dodge R/T also missed the top 16. The nine-time national event winner ran a 6.980/198.09 combination.

"We tore up the clutch in that run too," said Geoffrion, who also damaged a clutch in round number one. "We'll be all right. We have a fast car, we just need to get the clutch right."

Dean Skuza took his Matco Tools.com/Mopar Parts Dodge R/T Nitro Funny Car to the eighth-qualifying position with a 5.061/302.08 outing.
