BAYTOWN, Texas - On the heels of two strong outings this year at Gainesville raceway in Fla., Federal Mogul Funny Car driver Marc White and the Etterman Racing team will head west to this weekend's O'Reilly Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park. After dipping into the 5.7 [elapsed time] zone several times in Gainesville, White has his eye set on running 5.60's in Houston this weekend.

White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., qualified No. 2 in Gainesville with a 5.75 at 251 mph, then improved to a 5.74 at 252 mph in his round one victory.

Heavy rains Saturday night that persisted into Sunday forced the event to be postponed until April 20-21. White feels that the Etterman Racing 2001 Firebird has a 5.60 in it in Houston.

"After the way we ran in Gainesville, and what we saw on the computer, we are really excited about going to Houston," said White. "Our confidence level is probably as high as it could be. We're looking to run in the .60's at around 253+. We think we should be able to run somewhere in that area."

Anchored by his early season performance, White feels the 2001 season will be a very strong one for the Etterman Racing team.

"We don't look at the points a whole lot," explained White. "The way we look at it is if you win rounds, the points will take care of themselves. Looking at the big picture, if you do well; you'll do well in points. With that in mind, if we continue to run well, I think we'll do pretty good in points."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the Federal Mogul Funny Cars at 10 a.m., with another session at 1 p.m. Qualifying will resume Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., with first round of eliminations at 4:30 p.m.
