DIXON SHOWS CONSISTENCY OF MILLER LITE CAR WITH FOUR STRONG RUNS
BAYTOWN, TX. (Oct. 30) - Larry Dixon completed the final day of qualifying at Houston Raceway Park Saturday with a pair of strong laps to close out one of the most consistent qualifying efforts for the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Dragster which sits in the No. 3 position entering Sunday's elimination round at the Third Annual Matco Tools Super Nationals.
Dixon's top lap of 4.572 seconds at 312.50 mph set during Saturday's first lap earns him the right to meet No. 14 qualifier Mike Smith (4.669 secs. @ 301.60 mph). Dixon will face Smith for the first time this season and owns a career mark of 2 wins and no losses.
Miller Lite Team Crew Chief Dick LaHaie tuned Snake's Dragster to laps of 4.603, 4.576, 4.572 and 4.623, showing just how consistent the No. 91 car can be going into eliminations scheduled for 11 a.m. CST.
Dixon has qualified the Miller Lite Dragster on the pole on three occasions this season (Gainesville, Houston, Dallas) and finished fourth among top fuel drivers for the season-ending $100,000 exhibition shootout to be held at the AAA of Southern California NHRA Championships on Nov. 13.
He has recorded one win in three final round appearances this season and also owns the national elapsed-time record as the first driver to break the 4.5-second barrier (4.486 seconds). Dixon has seven NHRA national event wins in 17 final round appearances and was the 1995 NHRA Rookie of the Year.
