WILL DRIVES GIRL POWER RACING RAIL TO FIRST-ROUND FINISH AT HOME TRACK
SONOMA, Calif. (July 30, 2005) -- After qualifying her Girl Power Racing dragster in the No. 3 position with a weekend-best performance of 5.328 seconds at 270.64 mph, first-year Top Alcohol Dragster racer Hillary Will powered to a first-round finish Saturday at Infineon Raceway.
On Saturday morning, Will used a tune-up from tuner Bucky Austin to power her blown alcohol dragster to the No. 3 qualifying position with the 5.328, 270.64 effort. Will's speed was the fastest in the Top Alcohol Dragster category. Competing in her first NHRA national event at her home race track, the 25-year-old Northern California native raced to a run of 5.470 at 265.90, but was narrowly edged at the finish line by first round opponent Kevin Brown, who drove his A/FD to a 5.510, 248.57 performance. Will posted top speed of the first round of TAD eliminations.
"I'm disappointed because we had a lot of support from family and friends here at Sonoma this weekend," Will said. "We're a young race team and we'll continue to improve. Bucky (Austin) and the guys did a great job. The car ran well all weekend. We'll be back. I plan on being out here for a long time."
The Girl Power Racing team will next compete at the NHRA Division Six event, August 5-7, at Mission Raceway Park in Mission, B.C. Will and the GPR crew also will make up the rain-delayed NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Mission on Thursday, August 4. Will claimed the top qualifying position at the postponed event in May with a 5.37 elapsed time.
