GRUBNIC PICKS UP FIRST CAREER VICTORY IN TOP FUEL

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 29, 2005) - Australia native David Grubnic is the first- ever NHRA professional drag race winner not born on the North American continent after his first career victory on Sunday at the 2005 O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.

Grubnic, who had been to seven previous final rounds but never claimed victory, drove past Larry Dixon in the weekend's final pairing. Grubnic's 4.600 second ride at 320.28 MPH bested Dixon's 10.051 second run after Dixon smoked the tires early in the run.

The win for Grubnic also marked the first time this season he had reached a final round. "Aussie" Dave also moved into a third place tie in the POWERade Drag Race Series standings with his final round opponent from Sunday, Dixon.

Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, Championship OFF-Road Racing (CORR), and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in addition to many other events throughout the race season.
