NHRA WEST CENTRAL DIVISION LUCAS OIL DRAG RACE SERIES SEASON HEADS BACK TO HEARTLAND PARK TOPEKA
TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 22, 2006) - The National Hot Rod Association's West Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series continues the 2006 season this weekend, Aug. 25-26, as the Heartland Park Topeka drag strip will host round five of the six race Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.
The Heartland Championships Presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Kan Equp, and Goodyear is the second of two races scheduled at the facility for 2006. The Lucas Oil NHRA Division Five Heartland Spring Shootout was held at Heartland Park Topeka May 5-7.
Racers in eight categories, including 250 MPH Top Alcohol Dragsters (TAD) and Top Alcohol Funny Cars (TAFC) will be on hand vying for points, ultimately leading to divisional and national championships in each category.
The weekend's racing gets underway Friday with qualifying and time trials starting at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes are scheduled for two qualifying rounds on Friday and one on Saturday. Final round eliminations begin Saturday at 1 p.m.., with the first round of eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car set for 6 p.m.
Tickets for the Heartland Championships Presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Kan Equp, and Goodyear are $15 each day. Children six to 12 years old are $5, with kids 5 and under being admitted free. Fans who stop by any Topeka area NAPA Auto Parts Store will receive two free tickets for Saturday's racing with a $20 purchase. Military personnel with valid military ID will also be admitted free.
Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), and many other pro and amateur drag racing, road racing, and dirt racing events throughout the race season.
