Team JEG'S Looks To Continue Winning Ways
The JEG'S Mail Order Racing Team has had their share of success lately. Jeg Coughlin, Jr. and Mike Coughlin both are coming off of wins. Jeg was the Pro Stock Champion at the True Value Keystone Nationals and Mike was the Pro Stock Truck winner of the '99 US Nationals.
The familiar yellow and black colors of JEG'S Mail Order are well seen in both Pro Stock and Pro Stock Truck. The Pro Stock brother duo of Troy and Jeg Coughlin are well represented in NHRA's most competitive class. On the other side of the JEG'S coin are Mike and John Coughlin who compete in NHRA's newest professional class Pro Stock Truck.
The team believes heavily in the two car/truck team concept of winning. Team advisor and father Jeg Coughlin, Sr said, "We are a true two car/truck team. Having two vehicles going down the track in the same class gives us more data on the setup's, track and various conditions that effect our performance."
The team has the opportunity to have an all-JEG'S final at every event, which is the teams goal at every event. Jeg, Sr noted, "We have had three so far this season in Pro Stock, but it hasn't happened with our Pro Stock Truck program." In addition, the ultimate final round has yet to happen. The ultimate would be an all-JEG'S final in Pro Stock and Pro Stock Truck.
Jeg Coughlin, Jr's performance at the True Value Keystone Nationals put him firmly in the number three position in the points chase. Jeg has 1091 points. He trails Kurt Johnson by 96 and series leader Warren Johnson is 326 points ahead of Coughlin.
Jeg said, "We need to continue the current pace that we are on. I need to capitalize on other's misfortune on raceday, that's how we will make a move in the points with five races left in the season." Jeg was the Pro Stock runner-up last year at the Advanced Auto Parts Nationals.
The hungriest driver in Pro Stock has to be Troy Coughlin. Troy has had five final round appearances this season and remains winless.
Troy stated, "Our team has all of the tools it takes to win. We need to make sure that we cross all of our t's and dot all of the i's, and the rest will take care of itself on raceday." Troy is currently in the number seven spot with 734 points. He trails Mark Pawuk by 87 points.
Mike Coughlin clearly comes into the Advanced Auto Parts Nationals as one of the drivers to keep your eye on in Pro Stock Truck. Mike is fresh off of his US Nationals win, which was his second of the season.
Coughlin is holding down the number four spot and has 624 points. He trails Brad Jeter by 98 points and is looking forward to putting a serious dent in his lead. Mike noted, "Our team knows what we have to do to win. The energy level surrounding our team is very high right now and we want to keep it there for the rest of the year."
'99 NHRA "Rookie of the Year" front runner John Coughlin is ready to make a move into the Pro Stock Truck top ten. John sits in the number eleven position with 385 points. He trails '98 Pro Stock Truck Champion Larry Kopp by a mere 26 points, Jerry Haas is only 30 ahead, and Craig Eaton is leading Coughlin by 53 points. A strong performance at the Advanced Auto Parts Nationals will certainly catapult John into the Pro Stock Truck top ten.
John commented, "Our program has shown a lot of strength lately and it has continued to show promiss. Everyone involved contributes to our success-that's why our team works. We all have the same goal and we are all going in the same direction." John Coughlin had his first NHRA Pro Stock Truck victory in front of his hometown crowd at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals, earlier this year.
The JEG'S Mail Order Racing Team receives it's under the hood horsepower from Championship engine builder Richard Maskin and his staff at DART Machinery. Jeg Coughlin, Sr oversees the man power that propels the team to the winner's circle. Other team members include Clint Allerton, Mike Cunningham, Craig Hankinson, Dan McDonald, Gary Pearman, Wayne Perdue, Ian Rough, Rick Rossiter, and Scott Woodruff.
