Heartland Park Schedule Changes Due to Construction Project
TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 2, 2005) - Due to construction on the Heartland Park Topeka drag strip, some drag race events scheduled for the month of August have been postponed.
Events which will be moved include the Valley Automotive Machine Performance Heads-Up Street Racing Series on Friday, Aug. 12, the Heartland Park Topeka E.T. Bracket Drag Race Series events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14, the Heartland Park Topeka Junior Drag Race Series event on Saturday, Aug. 13, and the Bumper-to-Bumper Auto Parts Wednesday Street Showdown Aug. 17.
The Heartland Park E.T. Bracket Drag Race Series has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 and will also be the date of the National Dragster Challenge race. The HPT Junior Drag Race Series will be contested that morning, with bracket racing set for the afternoon.
The bracket race series will conclude for 2005 on Sunday, Oct. 16 with the NHRA King of the Track Runoff. This date has been added to the original schedule for 2005.
The Bumper-to-Bumper Wednesday Street Showdown will not be rescheduled, and the next Wednesday street legal drag event will run as scheduled on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The VAMP Heads-Up Street Racing Series event has not been rescheduled at this time, but several make-up dates have been discussed.
No other events on the drag strip will be impacted by the drag strip renovations.
Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, Championship OFF-Road Racing (CORR), and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in addition to many other events throughout the race season.
