POMONA, Calif., February 6, 2003 - There's going to be a fish in the Pro Stock racing pool during the 2003 NHRA POWERade championship series, but not just any fish.

NitroFish Apparel will sponsor Pro Stock driver Scott Geoffrion in Hurley Blakeney's new Ford Escort ZX2 during the 23-race campaign, company founder Bob Fisher announced on Thursday. It marks the first time his company has provided financial support to a team outside the nitromethane-fueled Top Fuel and Funny Car categories.

"The popularity of our designs lends itself to going in different racing areas," Fisher said. "We have had good success in Top Fuel and Funny Car, but the added demand for our apparel from Pro Stock and Sportsman fans made us believe this is the direction we need to go.

"We are pleased to be associated with Geoffrion. We think he is one of the best drivers in Pro Stock and we believe he and his team will be contending for this season's Pro Stock championship. When I look at Scott, I see the kind of guy I want to hang my clothes on."

"We are very happy to be associated with NitroFish," commented Geoffrion, from San Clemente, Calif. "I'm excited because NitroFish apparel is cutting edge, and that fits my personality. We believe we have the potential to win a title, with Bob Panella building the engines and making the horsepower; the expertise of Eric Luzinski at crew chief; and my driving experience."

Geoffrion, 37, has nine Pro Stock wins in 26 final rounds. He began driving in Pro Stock in 1990. His best season was 1994 when he won six times in 10 final rounds and finished second in the championship race. He was runner-up in 1992, third in 1993 and fourth in 1991. He set the national elapsed time record at Memphis in 2000 with a run of 6.809 seconds. His best speed was 201.43, also at Memphis in 2000.

Geoffrion joined Blakeney's team midway through last season, driving a Pro Stock Mustang. He qualified once, at Las Vegas, in October. He will be driving the same Mustang at the season-opening Winternationals and at Phoenix (Feb. 21-23) because the Escort ZX2 is still under construction at Don Ness's Minnesota shop.

"It looks like we won't be able to get the car completed and ready to race until the Gatornationals (at Gainesville, Fla. March 14-16)," Geoffrion revealed. "The good news is the Mustang tested well Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Las Vegas, and we know it will be well-dressed in NitroFish colors for the first two races.

Fisher said his apparel was "targeted for the X-generation and those who think they're in the X-generation. We are selling NitroFish apparel at Target, so we are introducing our brand of fish with an attitude to the general public. Plans also call for us to be in Wal-Mart stores soon."
