Jerry Haas: Back home again and in the driver's seat
Madison, Ill - - Jerry Haas, driver of the Jerry Haas Race Cars Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Truck, is looking forward to taking to the track this afternoon at the Sears Craftsman Nationals at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., just across the river from St. Louis. While Haas personally tests Pro Stock cars and trucks, as well as sportsman race cars, at the Madison, Ill., facility on a regular basis, this will the Fenton, Mo., driver and chassis builder's first competition at Gateway in several years.
Haas, who returned to the driver's seat last weekend after a year and a half absence, feels that he has a viable chance to make the qualified field of 16 Pro Stock Trucks this weekend.
"In our first race back last weekend (the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Ohio) we got reacquainted with the truck and developed a feel for what the Chevy S-10 was wanting. We improved with each pass down the National Trail Raceway track but failed to make the cut for Sunday's elimination," said Haas of his return one week ago.
"Although we would have been much happier qualifying, we were pleased with the weekend in Columbus and feel we developed a lot of data that will help us here this weekend. Gateway International Raceway is my hometown track and I'm looking forward to meeting with all the great fans from this area and being part of the field come time for eliminations on Sunday," added Haas.
Haas' first chance to qualify will be at 4:15 p.m. this afternoon, followed by a second session at 7:45 p.m. Tomorrow there will be two more opportunities, one at 11:45 a.m. and another at 3:15 p.m. Final eliminations for all classes gets underway at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
