MADISON, Ill. (Sunday June 24)– Don Smith, driver of the Texas Harley-Davidson Chevrolet S-10, entered today’s eliminations at the 5th Annual Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals holding the sixth spot on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder.
Smith’s met John Lingenfelter in the first round. Lingenfelter took a slight advantage at the starting line. On the starting line Smith’s truck starting spinning the tire and shaking. Lingenfelter held on to his lead to take the win. Lingenfelter ran a 7.524 / 179.18 mph defeating Smith who ran a 7.538 / 19.80 mph.
"I tried to run him down," said Smith, "but I just couldn’t do it.
"The track was different today, than it was yesterday. The starting line is terrible today. We felt like we needed to try something different to get down the track. So we tried some different tires. We tried it and it didn’t work.
"When I left the starting line the truck was moving and slipping around in low gear. I did everything I could, but it was not enough. He stayed in front of me and got the win, but we will get him next time.
"We now have to turn our attention to Indy. We are going to go home and do some testing. Indy is a big race; the race everyone wants to win. We are going to go home and do our homework and get ready for the biggest race of the season."
The next stop on the Pro Stock Truck schedule will be the 47th Annual Mac Tools US Nationals August 29 through September 3, in Indianapolis, Ind.
