Litton Chooses Conservative Path; Prepares For Final Eliminations In Madison

MADISON, Ill. - The bottom line is always what counts the most. In the end, a solidly qualified Bruce Litton, the Indianapolis-based driver of the Wix Filters Top Fueler found some successful data to help him in warm weather conditions.

Litton admits that he may have lifted early, but the first part of the track was the focus of his attention.

"We want to put on a good show for the fans, but on the same token, we don't want to hurt parts when we don't have to," explained Litton. "We were working on developing some eighth-mile combinations and I satisfied with what we accomplished here today. We'll be ready for tomorrow when it comes eliminations time."

Litton entered today's qualifying as the 10th quickest entry with a 4.711, 310.48 on his only pass of the first day.

The weather conditions were less favorable in Litton's first run on Saturday and the team knew that they would have a very slim chance for improvement. With this in mind, the team worked on their first-half of the run in the heat and made a clean run with no smoke, lifting early and coasting to a 5.05, 216.03. He maintained the tenth spot within the 16-car field.

The final session offered no reprieve as Litton remained in conservative mode with a 4.95, 239.53 early-lifting. He concluded qualifying as the tenth seeded driver.

He will face the seventh qualifier Tony Schumacher in the first round of Sunday's final eliminations.
