Litton Gambles Then Smokes Away First Round Match at Madison

MADISON, Ill. - Bruce Litton found it hard to repeat his qualifying performance, and instead went out in the first round thanks to an abundance of tire smoke in the first round. Litton, the veteran enclosed trailer dealer from Indianapolis, dropped a frustrating first round match during the Sears Craftsman Nationals in Madison, Ill.

Litton was paired against Tony Schumacher in the first round. The Wix Filters-sponsored driver was the quicker of the two off of the line and shortly out of the gate, he struck the tires. Schumacher began to pull ahead, but also encountered the same fate. With both drivers engaged in a pedal-fest, it became a survival of the fittest competition.

Schumacher came out on the winning end of things as he recovered the better of the two with a 4.915, 266.11. Litton finally abandoned ship and rolled through with a losing 7.445.

Litton entered today's final eliminations as the 10th quickest qualifier with a 4.711, recorded during the session qualifying session.
