Gainesville, Fla. - - The Mac Tools Gatornationals is underway. Under humid conditions, Pro Stock Trucks began qualifying for 16 positions that will compete in Sunday's eliminations. Charlie Greco, from St. Davids, Penn., in a Haas prepared Chevy S-10, failed to make the field in the first session when he recorded a pass 7.834 second at 156.12 mph.
The second session found Greco improving, but not enough to made the field. He recorded a pass of 7.672 seconds at 176.70 mph. Greco finished in the number 30 position.
"We didn't have enough clutch in the truck on either pass. After the first pass, we put more clutch in for the second run. Apparently, we didn't have enough that time either. On the second pass our mph was alright indicating that we have some top end power. We'll put our heads together tonight and come up with a plan of attack for the two runs tomorrow," said Greco.
Matt Rhoades, Greco's teammate, from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., held down the 15th spot at the end of the first session. He guided his Chevy S-10 down the Gainesville Raceway in 7.651 seconds at 176.14 mph.
Improving in session two, Rhoades recorded a pass of 7.564 seconds at 170.42 mph. This keep Rhoades in the field of 16, in the 15th position.
"Both runs were without major problems. The good news is that we're in the field. Now we must maintain our momentum tomorrow," said Rhoades.
Team owner Jerry Haas had this to say of the runs, "On the first run we were the second pair out. The track was green from all the overnight rain. We had a little trouble staying in the groove. Out of about the first ten pair, Matt was the only truck to get down the track. We got in though. We came back and made changes which showed improvement that last run. We'll take what we have and try to improve in each session tomorrow.
