LUCAS SEEING GREEN AT GATORNATIONALS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17) -- On this St. Patrick's Day, the only green Morgan Lucas wants to see this weekend is the large amount of Sunday's cash awaiting the winner of the 38th annual ACDelco Gatornationals at the Gainesville Raceway.

In his first round on race day, Lucas will be up against a good friend that shares the same sponsor as him -- Bruce Litton. The pilot of the Lucas Oil dragster will roll off the first pair, being the No. 8 qualifier after taking that position in the competitive field with his quickest time in qualifying of 4.602 seconds along with a speed of 327.90 mph.

"That's very expected especially with all the great cars in this field," said Lucas. "He has a twin to our car and I just love Bruce to death and he's a great person and good sportsman, so I know I won't have to worry about any trickery on the starting line. It's going to be a fun race, but I hate to race someone like that first round when you want to see a Lucas Oil car go rounds. Everybody's in the same boat, we just have to go out there and race. We're friends with Bruce before this race and we'll be friends afterwards. I'll all be good."

Despite a pair of quarterfinal finishes in his young drag racing career, the 23-year old driver now residing in Brownsburg, Ind., knows the value of such a prize as the ACDelco Gatornationals and how thrilling it would be to receive his first NHRA 'Wally' at Gainesville Raceway.

"I love the Gators," smiled Lucas. "I've had two chances at it and we'll see how it goes for tomorrow. To be honest with you, anything can happen with all the good cars in the show. It's not like it used to be. You can't go out there anymore and smoke the tires four times and win. It will be a tough race, but what else can we expect, it's the Gatornationals!"
