DIXON POWERS MILLER LITE RAIL TO NO. 4 SPOT FRIDAY IN FLORIDA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 18, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion and three-time Gatornationals winner Larry Dixon blasted his Miller Lite dragster to the fourth quickest elapsed time of the first day of qualifying for the 36th annual Mac Tools Gatornationals Friday at Gainesville Raceway.

The 35-time NHRA winner and 1995 NHRA Rookie of the Year opened qualifying under uncharacteristically cool springtime conditions by using a tune-up from champion tuner Dick LaHaie to stop the Gainesville Raceway timers in 4.543 seconds at 326.56 mph to earn the No. 4 qualifying position. Dixon's dragster overpowered the cold race track on Friday's final pass as the California native coasted to a run of 9.508 at 88.03.

Dixon, who earned his Top Fuel license at Gainesville Raceway in 1994, hopes to work on a race day tune-up and secure a qualifying spot in the top five when Top Fuel qualifying continues with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday in the Sunshine State.
