KALIFORNIA KATIE READY TO KICK OFF 2010 NHRA SEASON
Gainesville, Fla. -- 19-year old NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Katie Sullivan will kick off her 2010 racing season in style as the Sullivan Family Racing team prepares for their initial race of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series at this weekend's NHRA Tire Kingdom Gatornationals contested in Gainesville, Fla.
For the Chico State University college student from Corning, California, the 2010 Gatornationals is a chance to begin a 17-race season for her family operated team. She will begin the season riding the Shawn Gann-prepared Suzuki PSM instead of her family's recently purchased Suzuki PSM, which is still under construction at the Gann Motorsports headquarters.
"We are going to begin our season riding the Gann's Orange and White pretty bike I rode at a few event's last season including my first round win in Joliet, Ill.," noted the NHRA PSM sophomore. "We ran very well last season with this motorcycle and I can't thank the Gann's enough for letting us begin our season with this good luck bike. It would be awesome if we can put this fast Suzuki in the show and race on Sunday. But, rest assured, we will give it our best effort. We didn't come all the way across the country just to show up. We want to win."
Winning in the very competitive Pro Stock Motorcycle division would be a tall order for any team. After recently testing in Valdosta, Ga. this past weekend and recording a best elapsed time of 7.12 second with a very mild tune-up, Sullivan is pretty confident she has a shot at making the very difficult 16-motorcycle qualified field.
"There were a lot of PSM racers running in the six-second zone during the test, but we were very easy with this tune-up," Sullivan said. "All we wanted to do was get a good base-line for the 'Gators' and get me some more seat time on this bike, so we accomplished our goals. The Gann's and I believe there is a lot more left in the tank for this fast looking Suzuki. We'll step on it a bit this weekend and see what we can do."
Katie Sullivan and the Sullivan Family Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle team will begin their quest to qualify for the 41st running of the NHRA Tire Kingdom Gatornationals on Friday March 12th with two sessions scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm EST and then again at 2:45. They will have two more attempts on Saturday. Final eliminations are scheduled to begin Sunday morning at 11:00 am EST.
