Maryland Pro Stock Driver Faces Stanfield in First Round of Gatornationals

GAINESVILLE, Fla., March 15, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys used a 6.709-second run Saturday to secure a 10th-place starting berth for Sunday's ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

Humphreys, at the controls of his new RaceRedi Motorsports Pontiac GXP, was timed in 6.728 seconds in the car's first lap at an NHRA national event. The team finished three-days of testing Wednesday and then was forced to sit out Friday's two scheduled sessions when rain canceled the competition. Losing Friday's runs hurt crew chief Bob Glidden's tuning efforts.

"The car felt lazy on the last run," Humphreys said, "and we didn't get any computer data on either of our runs."

Glidden said he planned to change motors Saturday night. "Our new car is good but we shouldn't be running as slow as we are."

Humphreys meets Greg Stanfield (No. 7, 6.690 seconds at 205.72 mph) in Sunday's opening round.
