Craig Treble returns to defend Gatornationals title.
Gainesville, pre-race: Craig Treble will return to Gainesville this weekend, riding his Matco Tools Suzuki to defend his NHRA Gatornationals Pro Stock Motorcycle championship of 2002. The win last year at the NHRA Pro Stock Bike opener was the beginning of a break out season for Treble, and as much as the Matco driver would like to repeat his Gatornationals win, he is cautiously optimistic.
Addressing the talk by many that he is the favorite to win the 2003 POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle championship, Treble explains "Some people may be forgetting about the other piranhas out there, but I guarantee you I have not. Angelle Savoie, Antron Brown, Shawn Gann, Geno Scali, Sean Conner, Mike Berry, and on and on. All of these people know how to race, and what they need to do to win at this level"
On thing that Treble has that many in the NHRA Pro Stock Bike top ten do not, is consistency from last season. Returning with Crew Chief Calvin Aswege, Treble's Matco Tools Suzuki will feature the same Kosman chassis that carried him to the NHRA winner's circle four times last season. And as always, Vance & Hines motors will be powering the 2002 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Bike runner up.
With the Matco Tools team core still in place, Treble is also building for the future. "Kenny Williams is working on a new Kosman chassis to debut later in the 2003 season, and new crewmember, Mike Stevens will join the team in Gainesville."
The 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series' Pro Stock Bike series gets underway March 14-16 at the 34th annual MAC TOOLS Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL.
The event is the 1st of 15 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series events that feature Pro Stock Motorcycle.
At 34 years and counting the Gatornationals is one of the longest established events on the NHRA POWERade tour, exceeded in longevity only by the U.S. Nationals
