GAINESVILLE, Fla., March 17, 2007 -- Cory McClenathan qualified sixth for Sunday's ACDelco Gatornationals Saturday and will race Doug Kalitta in the opening round at Gainesville Raceway.

The 4.585-second run by the Carrier Boyz/Scott Griffin Racing FRAM/ Torco Top Fuel dragster came Friday night. Unpredictable traction conditions slowed McClenathan on both his Saturday runs.

"The car smoked the tires and shook early in the run and made the decision to pedal it," said McClenathan, "but after looking at the computer after the run, it looks like it might've made it through. These are split-second decisions and the driver doesn't always do a perfect job.

"The good news is we are sixth and have lane choice against Doug in the first round. We'll be ready to go rounds."

Kalitta's best run was 4.630 seconds at 327.03 mph.
