GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Less than three months ago, Top Fuel racer Bruce Litton was summoned from Kentucky to his Indianapolis-based shop because it was on fire. The Wix Filters-sponsored driver arrived to find his race team completely destroyed as well as a personal tribute through collectibles to his hometown of Oneida, Tennessee. Around the clock preparation has insured that the veteran enclosed trailer dealership owner will be in attendance at the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.

Litton is thankful for the opportunity that will be afforded him.

"These tests in life help us to put things in perspective," explained Litton, whose shop was located directly across the street from Indianapolis Raceway Park. "What we lost in the fire were material possessions. Those can be replaced, but lives cannot. I am thankful that nobody was injured."

He continued, "We were aiming for some testing in Virginia before this event, but we just ran out of time. We tested at Orlando before heading to Gainesville and we felt good about what transpired. I'm not going to say that we'll win the race or be a contender, but to make it to the line for that first qualifying round will make winners of our team already."

Litton plans to run as many as 12 NHRA/Winston events in 2001. He expects many positives to emerge from his participation.

"I think God has a plan for all of us," explains Litton. "He certainly guides and directs my paths and I honestly feel that our misfortunes happened for a reason. I'm not going to cry over lost possessions because God has certainly blessed me."

Litton will receive four qualifying attempts for participation in Sunday's final eliminations. He will attempt to qualify on Friday and Saturday and will be afforded qualifying runs at 12:15 and 3:30 each day. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 AM on Sunday.
