ENNIS, Texas - After struggling much during the early part of this season, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Marc White is set to rebound during this weekend's NHRA Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the Texas Motorplex just south of Dallas. White and the Etterman Racing Team found a major problem with the car that has contributed to their not running with the front runners of the class this year. With that problem now behind them, the team is hungry as ever for victory heading into this weekend's race.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., had a dismal outing during this past weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston, marred by parts failure and ultimately ended in a first round loss. Undaunted, White feels his team should be able to pick up right where they left off at the end of last season now in Dallas.
"We feel a whole lot better," said White. "We found something major wrong with the car that we have had all season, and just caught it in Houston. I think now that we have found that, we can go back to what normally works on this car, and we should go back to running up and down the racetrack just like we used to."
"Unfortunately, we threw away basically three races this year trying to find out what was wrong with it," added White. "At least we found it. It could have been a long year if we didn't. I think now we have the ship righted, and we are going in the right direction."
With hot, humid conditions forecasted this weekend, White expects to encounter the same conditions he competed in Gainesville and Houston in, and expects it will take 5.7 second elapsed times to win on Sunday.
"I think it will take 5.70's," stated White. "I've never raced at Dallas during a division race before, but it's such a good racetrack, I can't believe it will be a problem. Our mindset is that it is going to take mid to low 5.70's to be a player. I'm sure there will be some good cars that hung around from the Houston race that will show up at the Dallas race. It ought to be a pretty interesting weekend."
Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. Friday for the Top Alcohol Funny Cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for daily updates of the action and photo highlights from the Motorplex.
