Team Jeg's - Pro Stock
A total of 30 Pro Stock drivers battled over four qualifying sessions to be among the quick sixteen and have a position for raceday. In the opening round Jeg faced off against Greg Anderson. The two drivers have lined up next to each other six times and each has won three meetings.
The reaction time advantage went to Coughlin by .029 seconds (.438 to .476). Both cars were side-by-side until half track. Greg Anderson lost traction and was forced to shut off. The Jeg's machine also moved around down track but drove through it. The win light came on for Team Jeg's with a run of 6.854 at 200.29 mph.
"Nobody likes to be in the first pair of cars. If would have qualified a little better we would not have been in the situation. The conditions changed a lot overnight and the guys had a pretty good handle on it and the Jeg's Chevy Cavalier responded well to the changes that we made to it for the first round," said Jeg.
In the second round Jeg lined up next to Mark Pawuk. The Jeg's machine left the line first by .003 seconds. The two looked like they were welded at the door all the way down the track. The win light came on for Pawuk and he set the national record with a run of 6.806 at 201.34 mph. Jeg ran a career best 6.819 at 201.19 mph. The race was the quickest side-by-side NHRA Pro Stock race in history
"That was a good race. It was the quickest side-by-side race in NHRA Pro Stock history but the win light came on in the other lane. At the 1000-foot clock the car was starting to nose over and run out of steam. Our team is focused on the next two races and will be ready when the yellow and black return to Topeka later this week," commented Jeg
Jeg Coughlin will enter the next race in the No. 4 position in the points. He has 498 points and is only 43 points from reclaiming the top spot.
