Tony Gillig and the Gillig Motorsports team will join several NHRA Pro Stock racers at the U.S. Pro Stock Open in Budds Creek, MD. prior to the Englishtown event.

Royce Miller and the Maryland International Raceway crew does an excellent job grooming the facility in order for the teams to test and then run the eight car qualified race on Wednesday night. Gillig who has been struggling lately hopes to try some new things in order to get his familiar red and white Cutlass in the field.

"We are looking forward to testing at MIR and getting things ironed out for the 32nd annual Matco Tools SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions.

"The Englishtown event is one of the better facilities in NHRA thanks to the late Vinny Knapp for all his hard work over the years," stated Gillig.

Gillig missed the event in 2000 due to engine trouble but is up to the task in 2001. Utilizing Steve Schmidt power Gillig is eager to get his Cutlass running in the thick of things as soon as possible.

"We need more time to test and it is very difficult when racing isn't what all we do for a living. The top teams have an advantage over someone like us however we feel we can get the car qualified and race day is a whole different ball game!" said Gillig.

Team Gillig hopes to get on the winning track within the next two events as the race in Chicago in their home town is right around the corner.
