Valspar Refinish scores big with Team Koretsky.

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -- For the third race in a row, rain interrupted the racing action. This time rain cancelled Friday's second session and delayed Saturday's qualifying for the 33rd annual NHRA Matco Tools SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions.

Kenny Koretsky, from nearby Richboro, Pa., debuted his just acquired Jerry Bickel Valspar Refinish/Bucks County Kawasaki/Rally Wax Chevy Cavalier in Friday's opening qualifying session. According to Team Koretsky team manager Eddie Guarnaccia, Jr., they only tried to establish a baseline by successfully getting from point "A" to point "B." Koretsky recorded a run of 6.934 seconds down the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park quarter-mile.

Meanwhile, Koretsky's teammate Richie "the Kid" Stevens, from New Orleans, defending Matco Tools SuperNationals Pro Stock champ, in the Valspar Refinish/Snap-On Pontiac Grand Am, clipped off a run of 6.885 seconds, good for 15th after one qualifying session.

After Saturday's rain, the temperatures cooled into the 50s and for those with the right setup, elapsed times (ET) dipped. Entering the final qualifying session the #1 spot was 6.774 seconds and the bump was 6.871 seconds. With one session left, Stevens was 14th with an ET of 6.856 seconds; Koretsky was 28th by virtue of a 6.934 seconds pass.

In the final session Koretsky was the first member of Team Koretsky to take to the track. His numbers were career best in both elapsed time and speed. The veteran driver broke the finish line lights in 6.833 seconds and ran the speed trap at 201.52 mph in his Valspar Refinish/Bucks County Kawasaki/Rally Wax Chevy Cavalier.

Stevens followed with a blast of his own in the Valspar Refinish/Snap-On Pontiac Grand Am. He also set a career best time and speed -- 6.815 seconds at 201.28 mph. When qualifying ended Stevens was on the bump but in the field and would square off in Sunday's eliminations against #1 qualifier Jim Yates, who earned the top spot with a pass of 6.774 seconds at 202.39 mph.

On hand to watch the record breaking runs of Team Koretsky were Bernie Wilmer of Valspar Refinish and many guests of Valspar from throughout the northeast area. Also, on hand were guest from Snap-On Tools and Bucks County Kawasaki.

"The race was the first of a series of hospitality sites that we're holding in conjunction with Valspar Refinish, Snap-On Tools and our other marketing partners," said team owner Kenny Koretsky. "We are proud of our sponsors and judging from the numbers in attendance at this event, these hospitality functions should continue to be a highlight for Valspar, Snap-On and Rally Wax."
