K & N Filters named Title Sponsor of historic NHRA Supernationals.
GLENDORA, Calif. (April 17, 2003) - K & N Engineering, an industry leader in manufacturing air filters, oil filers and air intake systems for automotive, motorcycle and industrial markets, has reached an agreement with the NHRA to become the title sponsor of the historic NHRA SuperNationals, Bob Wagner, NHRA vice president of sales and business development, announced today.
The 34th annual K & N Filters SuperNationals presented by Pep Boys will be held May 15-18, at one of the East Coast's premier drag racing facilities, Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. The $2.1 million race, which will be televised by the ESPN network, is the eighth of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series for 2003.
"We're extremely excited to put K & N Filters' name on this historically significant NHRA event," said Rodney Mall, president and chief executive officer for K & N Engineering. "This is a tremendous opportunity for us to further expand our growing relationship with the NHRA and gain tremendous exposure in the nation's top media market. With our title sponsorship of another prestigious NHRA national event, the K & N Filters Winternationals each February in Southern California, the nation's second largest media market, I think we have firmly established our presence, both on the East and West Coast, as a progressive company that is committed to supporting the many talented racers and thousands of fans that follow NHRA Championship Drag Racing. Because the fans are so supportive of K & N and our products through our involvement with NHRA, we wanted to sponsor the K & N Filters SuperNationals presented by Pep Boys as a way to return the favor."
The commitment increases K & N's involvement with the NHRA. In addition, K & N Filters is the title sponsor of the season-opening K & N Filters Winternationals at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway and the K & N Filters Pro Bike Klash, a lucrative bonus event held for the 190 mph two-wheel category during the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Aug. 30. In addition, K & N Filters provides primary team sponsorship for the K & N Filters Pontiac Firebird Funny Car driven by Frank Pedregon and owned by Jim Dunn, the K & N Filters Suzuki campaigned by Steve Johnson in Pro Stock Bike, as well as the K & N Filters Mazda RX-7 driven by Abel Ibarra in the Pro RWD category in the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Series.
It is the second event sponsorship for K & N Filters at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, as the company also is the title sponsor for the K & N Filters NHRA Sport Compact Nationals presented by Toyo Tires, Oct. 4-5.
"It's very gratifying to see K & N Filters expand their involvement with the NHRA by becoming the title sponsor of one of our most historic and prestigious events," said Wagner. "They have clearly positioned themselves as a leader in supporting NHRA Championship Drag Racing through their innovative marketing strategies, national event titles and multiple team sponsorships. With the great support provided by K & N Filters for this premier event, which is the closest major auto racing event contested near metropolitan New York, and the largest media market on the NHRA circuit, we're confident that the K & N Filters SuperNationals will continue its status as one of the most anticipated and thrilling motorsports events in the industry."
