FULLER DRIVES H.O. PENN CAT DRAGSTER TO NO. 6 SPOT SATURDAY AT ENGLISHTOWN
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 21, 2008) -- Rod Fuller, racing his David Powers-owned H.O. Penn CAT dragster, clocked the quickest pass of Top Fuel qualifying Saturday afternoon at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. The 2006 winner of the Englishtown race will start in the No. 6 qualifying position with a time of 4.551-seconds.
Entering the final day of qualifying for the 39th annual SuperNationals in the No. 6 qualifying position after clocking a pass of 4.551 seconds at 328.46 mph in the H.O. Penn CAT dragster on Friday evening, Fuller used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to card the second quickest pass of Saturday's first qualifying session. The seven-time Top Fuel winner powered the Caterpillar/Matco Tools rail to a run of 4.659 at 316.67. Only Fuller's teammate, Antron Brown, was quicker at 4.639 seconds. On his final qualifying attempt of the weekend, Fuller blasted the H.O. Penn rail to the quickest and fastest pass of the day by carding a run of 4.609 at 322.58. It is the sixth time Fuller has qualified in the top half of the field this season. He has now qualified for 72 consecutive races, the second longest streak in Top Fuel (Tony Schumacher).
"We like the heat," Fuller said. "Both of these David Powers cars ran awesome today. We both were testing the new Goodyear tire and we and Antron (Brown) were the two quickest cars of the day. We have a great tune-up for the warm conditions and that gives us a lot of confidence heading into race day. We made four great qualifying passes, now we want to keep that going and try and win another race here at Englishtown, this time for H.O. Penn."
Fuller will face off against No. 11 qualifier Morgan Lucas in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (ET) on Sunday. They have a 1-1 mark in two races this season and Fuller holds a 5-3 advantage in eight career matches against Lucas. It is the sixth time in his career that Fuller has qualified sixth. The Las Vegas racer has a mark of 13-9 this season with two final round appearances and a win at the St. Louis race in May.
